MAKING THE MOST OF EVERY SEASON

Sunday Service – 29 August 2021

God has a heart for each and every person He created, man and woman. Especially woman

  • Most of the time, we are very hard on ourselves, we can be reactional or overreact.
  • We sometimes forget that God is our greatest cheerleader when we do that
  • God created man and woman in His own image and likeness to stand shoulder to shoulder for the bigger picture.
  • The moment we give our lives to Christ, we lay our rights down.
  • Whatever God has given you, is for a bigger picture and not about you.
  • Seasons are changing every time, different challenges everywhere.
  • Today’s weather is colder& windy than yesterday.
  • There are constant changes in our lives, families, marriages, our children, economically and socially.
  • When you are single and you get married, things change – you have to give up some of your independence to accommodate your partner, that’s life
  • You have to understand the changes in your life in order to embrace them.

BIBLICAL THOUGHTS

  1. Seasons are normal and necessary
    • Questions we often ask ourselves when going through seasons:-
      • A young mom frustrated – Has anyone ever gone through this?
      • Parents having rebellious children
  • A single waiting for marriage, the list goes on.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-4

To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven: A time to be born, And a time to die; A time to plant, And a time to pluck what is planted; A time to kill, And a time to heal; A time to break down, And a time to build up; A time to weep, And a time to laugh; A time to mourn, And a time to dance;

Solomon knew a bit about timing. He tells us that there is time  allocated for  everything. He lists examples Birth, Death, Planting, Reaping, Weaping , Laughing etc.

Important lessons from this :-

  1. God has made everything appropriate in its time
  2. It is our responsibility to accept and cooperate with God’s timing.
  3. It is our responsibility to recognize God’s timing, not to change it.

Genesis 1:14

Then God said, “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years;

Genesis 8:22

“While the earth remains, Seedtime and harvest, Cold and heat, Winter and summer, And day and night Shall not cease.”

 Psalm 104:19

He appointed the moon for seasons; The sun knows its going down.

  • Even the sun knows it’s setting.
    • Seasons are certain
    • They are passing
  • They are repeated
  • They are productive
  • We can’t change them

SEASONS ARE GOD-ORDAINED

Daniel 2:21

And He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise And knowledge to those who have understanding.

 Acts 1:7

And He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority.

  • Every change of season should remind us of His sovereign promises, His creative power, and His timetable.
  • God created seasons and they will last as long as the earth remains.
  • This consistency in the ]change of seasons can also remind us of the consistency of our God. James spells it out for us:
  • In His wisdom , He gives seasons. How many of us knows that He is eternal?
  • Understand that it is our tine to impact in the season we are.
  • There is no Best Before(BB) in the kingdom. You are at the best age serve God in any way He wants you to . God says: ” It’s your time now “

Psalm 31:15

My times are in Your hand; Deliver me from the hand of my enemies, And from those who persecute me.

  • Stop listening to the lies of the enemy when he says yoy are in the wrong place at the wrong time .
  • You will miss the opportunity of your life time to be where God wants you to be.
  • God says I am the one who ordains you.

Acts 17:26

And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings,

  • Let God position you for effectiveness- sometimes it’s not about where the grass is greener,

1Thesalonians 5:

For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night.

  • You are children of the light, you shouldb’t be caught/ terrified, you are made to recognize the times

SEASONS ARE DIFFERENT

  • We ussually assume that seasons should be the same.
  • Some people feel guilty when they are going through a difficult season and some are not eg.Singleness, divorce, rebelliouschild, teenage pregnancy.
  • Embrace to make an impact.
  • There different seasons in our lives, sometimes financial constrants,Health, family.
  • We should pray in line with our season that God will come through for us .
  • You can neglect certain things when not embracing your season.eg marriage, work, children.
  • Jesus season of pain and brokenness brought light to us because he embraced it.
  • God can put you in seasons of separation just for Him. eg fasting for days when others are feasting, fasting and sacrifice, learn a new skill, discipline, singleness, marriage, death, loss
  • Seasons of spiritual highs and lows
  • God wants us to flourish in all seasons.
    • Winter season though hated by many, is not wrong for anyone.
      • Understand the gift of seasons.
      • It is necessary for all of us
      • We don’t like  it when things die in winter, look at the trees, mostly there is no shade – most probly because we don’t need it.
      • Trees are stripped bare in winter because pf the cold.
      • In your winter season , depend on God for warmth.
      • Some people are untouchable and unreachable by those close to them.
      • This is where we are pruned to allow the new leaves to grow.
      • Some people despise the small green leaflets appearing.
    • Spring – Season of Promise
      • A time where seeds grow sprouts, time for new growth.
      • Understand that .Attributes of the seasons may vary by location,
      • In the spring, seeds take root and vegetation begins to grow.
      • The weather is warmer, and often wetter.
      • Animals wake or return from warmer climates, often with newborns
      • Some people despise it because it looks unconvincing. But wait and see as it goes the trees becomes clothed with beautiful green leaves.
      • Do not abort the new birth by cruel words, let’s encourage one another not tear each other up.
      • It’s so easy to mess up –
      • A season of growth ,be prepared to grow.

And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.

Galatians 6:9 NKJV

  • Colourful flowers are seen everywhere

Every change of season should remind us of His sovereign promises, His creative power, and His timetable.  God created seasons and they will last as long as the earth remains.

This consistency in the change of seasons can also remind us of the consistency of our God.

    • Summer – Season of abundance
      • Many people like it, time to party and social gatherings.
      • Time for feasting, the weather is good or favourable .
      • Dangerous time for christians- forgetting who we are.
      • Summer is filled  with holidays.
      • In your leisure and pleasures , remember that you are still His child.
    • Autumn is a beautiful season that signifies both the year coming to an end and the approach of the New Year, when the calendar turns and we step forward in time. The seasonal  the autumnal time of life can be a beautiful season of growth, fellowship and enjoying retirement.

Conclusion

  • Let’s learn to embrace each other in our different seasons.
  • Let’s bear fruits in every season

Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit.

John 15:2 NKJV
