A Call to Duty – The Power of Obedience

1 SAMUEL 15:22-23
22The Has the Lord us pat delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed than the fat of rams. 23For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is us iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, He also has rejected you from being king.

Introduction

Four Reasons Alexander Was Great

1. His Army Was Highly Motivated.

He would enter the heat of the battle along with all of his other soldiers. Most often, he would lead the charge, whereas the usual practice of generals was to stay in the back and give orders.

2. He Studied The Weaknesses Of His Enemy.

He looked for holes in their defense. He searched for unguarded walls and psychological weaknesses, because this was what the enemy feared most.

3. Lightened His Soldiers’ Load

His army traveled more than they battled. Therefore, they had to carry items for their daily needs. Before going into conflict, Alexander
ordered his men to remove everything except what was needed for battle. They were not to be burdened with unnecessary weight and could walk, run and fight longer.

4. He Always Fed His Soldiers Well

He understood that it is impossible to fight and win without energy.

Why Obedience is the Best Weapon

Obedience to God is better than a blood offering! What God wants and what Satan fears most is your obedience! The Hebrew word for “obey” in this chapter is shama, meaning to hear intelligently and with attention. In Greek, the word obedience means to pay attention and to hearken.

Obedience Nothing But Obedience

  • Romans 6:16 – Obedience brings righteousness.
  • Romans 16:19,20 – Obedience causes Satan to be bruised under your feet.
  • 2 Corinthians 10:5,6 – Strongholds and imaginations are subject to your obedience.
  • 1 Peter 1:2 – Obedience brings sanctification, or separation from the sinful nature.
  • Hebrews 13:7 – Obedience to spiritual authority is for your own good.

Joshua 3
1Early the next morning Joshua and all theIsraelites left Acacia Grove and arrived at the banks of the Jordan River, where they camped before crossing. 2Three days later the Israelite officers went through the camp, 3 giving these instructions to the people: “When you see the Levitical priests carrying the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord your God, move out from your positions and follow them. 4 Since you have never traveled this way before, they will guide you. Stay about half a mile behind them, keeping a clear distance between you and the Ark. Make sure you don’t come any closer.” 5Then Joshua told the people, “Purify yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do great wonders among you.”

Joshua’s Obedience Challenge

  • Act immediately
  • Act fearlessly – Don’t allow fear to be attached to your dream.
  • Acknowledge the presence of God.
  • Anticipate the miracles of God

Conclusion

  • God can do much through one act of Obedience
  • Obedience triggers opposition
  • Obedience releases miracles – no surprises
  • Obedience requires faith
